A 15-week focused effort to connect people, skills and resources with locally identified needs following the devastating disaster in northern Nepal.
On 26 August 2026, a catastrophic debris avalanche and flash flood struck northern Nepal, causing significant damage to communities and critical infrastructure. As the immediate emergency response continues, affected communities are beginning to face the long and complex process of recovery and reconstruction.
Over the coming 15 weeks, from September to mid-December 2026, Elevate Programs International is undertaking a concentrated effort to identify where additional people, skills, resources and expertise can responsibly support this recovery.
Our role is simple: to help connect people who want to help with organisations and communities that know what is needed.
Working Through Local Connections
Elevate has established relationships and trusted partners in Nepal, including organisations already working alongside affected communities.
We will work through these existing relationships to understand emerging needs and identify opportunities where external support can genuinely add value.
This could include projects such as school restoration and rebuilding, community clean-up, shelter, repairs, skilled trades, engineering, education and other practical recovery activities.
The projects will be determined by local priorities and partner capacity. We will not arrive with predetermined projects or seek to duplicate the work of organisations already responding.
Instead, our approach is to complement and integrate with existing response and recovery efforts, bringing additional capability where it is requested and appropriate.
A 15-Week Window for Action
The period leading into the Nepalese winter provides an important window to build connections, understand needs and mobilise support.
During these 15 weeks, we will be working to:
- identify locally prioritised opportunities for support;
- connect Australian and international organisations with trusted partners in Nepal;
- explore opportunities for skilled volunteers, professional teams and practical resources;
- support safe and responsible in-country engagement;
- strengthen connections between local and international organisations; and
- establish relationships and approaches that can continue beyond the initial recovery period.
Some organisations may be able to contribute a team. Others may have specialist skills, equipment, professional expertise or simply a group of people who want to help.
There is no single way to contribute.
Our job is to listen, understand what is needed and do our best to make the right connections.

Elevate has also previously worked with Freedom in Disasters and the Sunita Foundation, who are supporting locally led efforts to reduce the risk of human trafficking and exploitation following disasters.
