Rethinking Aid System Narratives- The Case for Collaborative Leadership

We found a very interesting article in the latest Humanitarian Leader paper with you, titled ‘Rethinking aid system narratives: The case for collaborative leadership’ by Nigel Timmins and the Centre for Humanitarian Leadership’s Deputy Director, Joshua Hallwright, which is also available in French for our francophone colleagues here.

In this article, the authors reflect on the ways of thinking that shape our siloed (see Perpetual Organisational Silos illustration below) and reactionary system of humanitarian aid and argue that there is a need to re-frame disasters as contextual factors rather than exceptional events within the development framework. They also examine the cooperation and collaboration that is required bring about sustainable change and discuss the incentives that could bring leaders and organisations together, strengthening accountability and making the development and humanitarian system more effective in supporting disaster affected and at-risk communities.

We hope you enjoy reading this month’s edition and look forward to continuing to share our 2024 Humanitarian Leader publications with you.
